Do you enjoy working with people and serving your community? Operating a bus might be the perfect job for you!
The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 6 percent job growth for bus drivers between 2014 and 2024. Along with that hopeful statistic, this career path has lots of perks, like getting to know more people in our town and helping your community provide necessary services.
Read on to learn four great benefits of being a bus driver!
As a bus driver, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with different, diverse people every day. After driving the same routes long enough, you’ll even get to know the individuals who ride often and remember where they need to stop. Bus drivers also learn their city’s layout quickly, which means you can direct riders to the best restaurants and shops (and be able to go to them yourself when you’re off duty!).
Without public transit systems, many people in your community couldn’t get to work or school, or run necessary errands. As a bus driver, you’ll positively impact others’ quality of life — especially the elderly and those with disabilities, who often rely on public transportation. Plus, you’ll help people get to their jobs, classes, and appointments — which keeps Greater Lafayette’s businesses, schools, and other organizations running.
Another benefit of being a bus driver? You don’t have to go to (or pay for) a four-year college to have a great career! Anyone age 21 and up with a high school diploma (or equivalent), a valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record can become a bus driver. You’ll just need to take an eight-week training course to receive your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). And if you decide to drive with CityBus, we’ll pay for your CDL training, practical exam, DOT physical, and uniforms!
Along with fair compensation, full-time bus drivers can enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including:
Being a bus driver involves so much more than keeping riders and other drivers safe on the road. It also gives you the chance to connect with people in your city, provide a necessary service, and enjoy a fulfilling career.
